Latest STWR Database of Tartans to View - over 3000

The Scottish Tartans World Register has been operated by Keith Lumsden since 2001.  Keith is a renowned tartan researcher and designer and was the Registrar of Tartans for the Scottish Tartans Society for many years until its untimely demise in 2000.  Keith has written a overview of tartan design - click here - and we include a short biography of his involvement with tartan - click here.  The STWR database incorporates all the original STS tartans plus many more, carefully vetted by the STWR, and registered since the STWR's inception bringing the total to over 3000.  Keith has fine tuned the original STS colour pallet (it contained just 56 'academic' colours dictated largely by the limited technology of the time) to over 130 colours giving a much more realistic rendition of the tartans.

Tartan Designer allows every tartan in the database to be searched, viewed and printed.  Tartans are categorised - Clan, Corporate, USA, etc, and many include the original notes and comments relating to the tartan.

Users can also search their own designs and if any other databases of tartans were to become available the modular design of Tartan Designer would allow these to be incorporated.

Tartans can be viewed full screen and if desired all windows can be hidden allowing just the tartan to be viewed.
